The Form One oral exam will be done in class before the exam period. The exam will be out of a total of 40 marks.
Part 1 will be based on phonics and will be worth 20 marks (10 marks for listening and 10 marks for speaking).
Part 2 will be a passage reading and will be worth 20 marks.
PART 1: PHONICS Total 20 marks
PHONICS LISTENING 10 marks
This section is in dictation format. Students will listen to the teacher reading new 10 sounds and words. They will then write down the spelling of those words based on the phonics skills and rules taught during this term.
PHONICS SPEAKING 10 marks
Students must read to the teacher 10 new words presented to them on a card. The words will be new to the students so be sure to remember the phonics skills and strategies taught this term. Try to sound out the words if you are unsure.
PART 2: READING Total 20 marks
PASSAGE READING 20 marks
Students will be given ONE of the two reading passages. The teacher will ask them to read one or more of the paragraphs from the passage. - Students should read the passage naturally and not recite it like a memorised reading done by a robot. - Students will be marked on pronunciation, speed, fluency, intonation and general speaking ability. - Having good expression, gestures and adding feeling to the reading will help the students score well.
You can see the reading passages (from part 2) below and also listen to a recording of each passage by clicking on the audio file player. Remember the more you practise the better you will become!
